What should I expect in getting started with counseling? How long should I expect to be in counseling?
Not all therapists start counseling in the same way, but here is an overview of how I handle the first few sessions and what to expect with me:
The first session is our intake session where I will be asking you questions about the many facets of your life and what you have been experiencing that has led you to seek counseling at this time. This tends to be about 60-80 minutes in length. Depending on your comfort level, we can continue with virtual sessions or discuss meeting in person for future sessions.
Our second session, we will work together to create goals for our time together to keep us working toward small, achievable steps forward. We will discuss both personal goals and therapeutic goals for the short term (1-2 months from now) and long term (6 months to a year from now) and ways that we can work toward those goals in our upcoming sessions.
The third session forward, I intend to hold a balanced space for working on the areas we discussed as goals with space to process the real-life situations that you encounter between sessions. This begins to develop a deeper understanding of how you process through your thoughts, feelings, actions and reactions within yourself and with others.

Frequency of sessions is dependent on your needs as well as available session times that work for both of our schedules. Options include weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or longer term less frequent maintenance sessions as needed.

My hope is that we will frequently evaluate how you feel like therapy is going for you, if there is anything we can change or adjust, and have the conversation at the right times when it seems appropriate to move to less frequent sessions and/or end therapeutic treatment together.

Therapy can be expensive! How do I pay? Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept any insurance at this time as I am currently working toward receiving my license to be able to provide some insurance coverage in the future. My services are currently self-pay/out-of-pocket only at this time and my standard rates are $110 for the first intake session and $90 for regular sessions thereafter.

I have recently partnered with a company called SuperBill which handles the heavy lifting...

What is your approach to counseling?

The foundation of my counseling is primarily a person-centered approach that believes that you are the most knowledgeable person about your own experience; I am along for the ride to provide a safe space to explore the facets of who you are, how you desire to move through your life, and offer a different perspective

I have recently completed the Level 1 Training for the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of therapy which
